Charles Walker - Director

Charles is the founding director of Walkers, having set up as a sole practitioner in 2008. This followed a lengthy and illustrious career in silver circle and major City firms in London, fostering his wide ranging experience in litigation, company, corporate, media and intellectual property law.

Charles has acted for household names and major international operations throughout his career, and has had several cases appear in the White Book whilst in London. Some of Charles early career highlights have been during handling complex litigation in the High Court during his time as an articled clerk.

After a stint as head of commercial at a well-known York firm, Charles struck out on his own with just a phone and a desk, building the firm from the ground up with the ambition being to set Walkers apart from other firms by providing excellent service, a wealth of experience in all commercial matters, and all tailored to individual client needs.

Emily Farrell - Office Manager

Emily graduated from York St John University in 2010 with a First Class Honours degree in Media (BA Hons). She has over eleven years' experience of working within the business and healthcare sector. Emily joined our firm in March 2011 as our Office Administrator and became our Office Manager in June 2014.

John Beckett - Consultant

John joined the practice in 2012 after 10 years running his own consultancy business. He has over 30 years' experience in private practice specialising solely in commercial property and town and country planning matters. For most of his professional career John was with Hammond Suddards, and for many years was national head of that firm's property and planning department.

John has acted for a wide variety of public and private corporate clients, as well as a development corporation, a number of local planning authorities and various banks and other lenders.

A non-practising solicitor, John is a regular speaker at commercial property law conferences and is accredited by the Law Society as a provider of Continuing Professional Development for solicitors.

Charlotte Wigham - Solicitor

Charlotte joined our firm as a consultant solicitor in May 2017. She is an experienced intellectual property, commercial and media and entertainment solicitor as well as an expert business advisor and legal commentator. Charlotte has appeared on BBC Breakfast television, BBC FiveLive radio and others, talking on intellectual property and regularly lectures on her specialist field having delivered courses at ESADE Business and Law School (MBA school) and the Law Society of Barcelona (ICAB). Forthcoming lectures include one on IP licensing for the LLM course at the University of Bournemouth in 2018.

Charlotte trained with a niche music and entertainment firm in London and qualified in 2006. She has represented famous brands and a number of celebrity clients and has won awards and accolades for her legal work, including a silver disc from the British Phonographic Industry for her legal representation on a UK number 1 chart hit.

Since 2007 Charlotte has worked as a consultant lawyer in the UK and retains an office in Barcelona, Spain, representing clients on a wide range of commercial, IP and media matters and she also specialises in advising fintech startups.

Ruth Cockshott - Solicitor

Ruth joined Walkers in 2013, having qualified in 2010 and worked at a large full-service regional law firm in Leeds for 7 years.

As a commercial litigation solicitor, Ruth has experience in dealing with a broad range of commercial disputes, from professional negligence and intellectual property infringement to insolvency and seeking to enforce entitlements under contract - her particular areas of interest are complex contractual claims and shareholder/partnership litigation.

Ruth can advise in relation to a dispute at any stage – be it pre-action, once proceedings are underway or to help enforce a judgment. Equally, Ruth is adept at dealing with alternative forms of dispute resolution (such as adjudication and arbitration) as well as civil court proceedings.

Ruth’s focus is very much on the ‘end goal’ and she prides herself on working closely with her clients so that she can understand their business and strategically work towards a commercial, cost-effective outcome.

Charlotte Bishop - Solicitor

Charlotte joined Walkers in May 2013 as a Paralegal assisting and gaining experience in a variety of commercial property and commercial law matters. Having graduated from The University of York in 2011 with a 2:1 in English and Related Literature, Charlotte went on to pass the Postgraduate Diploma in Law and Legal Practice Course with commendation. She started her training contract in March 2015 and qualified as a Solicitor with Walkers in April 2017.

Badar Zaman - Solicitor

Badar joined Walkers in March 2015 as a Commercial Property Paralegal after working as a Legal Advisor at a Leeds firm. He graduated from Sheffield Hallam University with a First in Law and has gained a distinction in the LPC from BPP Law School in Leeds. Badar began his training contract with Walkers in April 2016, he qualified in October 2017 into the Commercial Property department.

Caroline Harrow - Trainee Solicitor

Caroline joined our firm in March 2016 as our office administrator and subsequently worked in a paralegal role providing legal and administrative support. She began her training contract with us on 3 April 2018. Caroline received a distinction in her LPC in July 2016 from the University of Law after gaining her Graduate Diploma in Law in June 2015 and graduating with a First in Classical Studies from the University of Liverpool.
